Working for us

Why work for us?

We are proud of the good reputation Poole Hospital enjoys within the local community, both as a provider of first-class health care services and as a major employer.

We consistently feature within the top twenty per cent in both national patient and staff satisfaction surveys. Poole Hospital has also been voted as one of the top 100 hospitals to work for by the Nursing Times and was named the best hospital for patient experience in the 2010 Healthcare Excellence & Leadership Awards.

Our location

Poole isn't just a great place to work - it's also a fabulous place to live.

Poole Hospital is situated across the road from Poole Park and close to the town centre, within walking distance of the bus and train station. Several of the hospital’s wards enjoy picturesque views across Poole Harbour, the second largest natural harbour in the world.

Poole boasts a bustling quay and some of the best beaches in England providing a range of water sports activities. From Poole there is easy access to the Dorset countryside, renowned for its areas of outstanding natural beauty and the spectacular Jurassic Coast, ideal for sports and outdoor activities.

Our town centre location means that we are conveniently situated for public transport. The bus and mainline train stations are both within easy walking distance, as are the Lighthouse Arts Centre, Poole Park and high street shops.

Discounted childcare

Trust staff are able to take advantage of a discount of the nearby Tops Day Nursery, located a few minutes from the hospital on Denmark Lane. The nursery offers flexible childcare arrangements and is open Monday to Friday 6am-8pm, including bank holidays. It caters for children from three months old up to pre-school age, and children aged five-11 years-old in the Mini Beasts Play Club. Annual leave entitlement starts at 27 days a year (for full time workers) plus bank/public holidays, and increases to 29 days after five years service and 33 days after 10 years service. Part-time members of staff receive leave calculated on a pro-rata basis, based on their hours of work.

Staff benefits scheme

Staff have access to our employee salary sacrifice scheme, which allows staff to make savings in a range of areas. Payments are made before tax is deducted from your salary, meaning you can make savings of around 20-40%. Currently, the scheme includes:

  • Bikes
  • Car leasing
  • Professional subscriptions

Training

The Trust believes that investing in staff training and encouraging personal development allows us to achieve the high level of care we deliver for patients.

We are committed to supporting the education of staff in all professions and at all levels across the trust, through in-house classroom based training and via e-learning.

We provide in-house training around clinical skills and support staff who register for vocational diplomas. We also work with external organisations to provide staff with access to continuing professional development courses and management and leadership competencies.

Employee support

The trust’s human resources and occupational health departments work in partnership with consultants Validium, to provide support to our staff. Staff have access to a 24-hour helpline, and can access counselling services, legal advice, support on family and childcare issues and much more. We also have an occupational health department offering support to staff in a range of ways, and robust policies and procedures in place to support our workforce.
