A graphic image showing butterflies and a rainbowOur chaplaincy service covers Poole Hospital, St Mary’s Maternity Unit, Forest Holme Hospice and the Harbour Hospital

Confidential service

Our confidential service is available for patients, relatives, friends and carers, irrespective of whether or not you have a religious faith. Chaplains are people with time to listen, offer support and journey alongside you.

If your request is urgent, please ask the ward staff to bleep the on-call chaplain. A chaplain is normally available 24 hours a day in an emergency.

The chaplaincy team

The team is made up of ordained chaplains and volunteer staff from the Christian and Jewish faiths. We can also contact faith leaders from the Muslim, Buddhist, Baha’i, Hindu, Sikh and Pagan traditions. The chaplaincy team can:

  • Ensure that your faith needs are respected
  • Provide a friendly and confidential listening ear
  • Provide bedside ministry (prayer, emergency baptisms or naming and blessing services for babies, Holy Communion, anointing on request)
  • Provide an escort to chapel services
  • Contact local faith leaders on your behalf
  • Help to arrange emergency weddings/renewal of marriage vows
  • Provide spiritual resources such as prayer mats, religious texts, other reading material, crosses or beads

The chapel/prayer space

Hospital chapelThe chapel/prayer space is on the first floor on the A/B Block corridor. It is open 24 hours a day for members of all faiths or none for quiet prayer and reflection. There are various aids to prayer available.
