New entrance takes step forward

The Main Entrance (South) has started to take shape this week as sections were craned into place.

The facility will be a modern front entrance that will improve the privacy and dignity of patients transferring between wards and departments. It will link the main hospital to the Philip Arnold Unit and includes a new reception area, improved communal spaces, extra retail opportunities, a suite of public rest rooms - including a patient changing place facility - and an open-plan patient experience hub for initial patient queries.

A crane has been on site all week and the exterior is now starting to look like the finished development.

Deputy chief operating officer and the project’s operational lead for the hospital, Jacqueline Coles, said: “I’m very happy with the progress.

“It’s been great to see the modules that will make up the facility arrive on site this week and I’m excited that the building is now taking shape.

“It’s going to be a fantastic development for the hospital and I’m really looking forward to seeing it open.”

It is due for completion in the Spring and is of no cost to the trust. For more information visit the New Main Entrance (South) section of the website.
