'Historic' members meeting

Around 100 Foundation Trust members attended the hospital's annual members meeting this week.

amm 2018The event, held on 20 September in the hospital's lecture theatre, is an opportunity for members to learn about how the hospital performed during 2017/18, with updates given by our chief executive, Debbie Fleming, and director of finance, Mark Orchard.

Dr Barry Newman, clinical lead for the hospital's acute pain service, and Emily Bennett, clinical nurse specialist, gave a clinical presentation on the complex field of acute pain, the team behind the service and the work they undertake.

amm 2018And governor Sandra Yeoman provided an insight into the hospital's rich history with a presentation looking back at some of the key milestones over the 129 years a hospital has stood at the Longfleet Road site. A historical press cutting raised smiles among members as it recounted an 'eventful and busy year' noting that the hospital treated 'over six casualties a day.' In contrast, this month marked the busiest Saturday on record for Poole Hospital, with 235 patients treated in the emergency department alone.

Governor James Myles also updated attendees on developments in membership recruitment, and on successful elections to governor posts. The meeting concluded with a specially commissioned film to mark the NHS' 70th birthday, featuring members of the Bourne Free Choir performing the song You've Got A Friend.
