Extreme winter weather conditions. Message from Debbie Fleming, Chief Executive

We would like to thank staff and members of the public who have responded to our calls for support during these very challenging weather and travel conditions.

As conditions have worsened over the past 24 hours, we have had to focus all our resources on keeping emergency services running.

Our staff have been amazing, many battling in through the snow, many walking, many staying late until relieved by colleagues and indeed, many staying overnight.

In addition,  we are hugely grateful to the volunteer 4x4 service, who played a vital role last night in bringing in essential staff from across the conurbation/wider area.  We could not have maintained safe services without them.

As conditions remain hazardous, we have postponed  all non-essential activity across the hospital, and those patients affected have been contacted. In addition, we are asking those who have friends or family in the hospital not to visit whilst the severe weather conditions continue, unless absolutely vitally necessary.

In the meantime, we would like to thank all our staff and the fantastic volunteers who are helping us to keep our vital services going during this difficult period.

Debbie Fleming
