Annual Snowdrop Walk

More than 100 people attended a baby remembrance event organised by SPRING, part of Poole Hospital Charity and which was established 20 years ago.

To recognise the milestone anniversary, SPRING’s annual Snowdrop Walk took place at Upton Country Park on 24 February, where bereaved families planted snowdrops in the winter borders.  A message tree was also created, featuring dedications to babies who died during pregnancy, at, or just after, birth. After the walk, sandwiches and refreshments were provided, giving a further opportunity for bereaved families and friends to come together.

Emma Johnston, SPRING chairperson, said: "Thanks to SPRING – and Poole Hospital’s commitment to bereavement support – hundreds of families from Poole, Bournemouth and surrounding areas have been supported through the loss of a baby and through subsequent pregnancies.

“Organising remembrance events is such an important part of what SPRING does.

“This year’s Snowdrop Walk was a beautiful occasion and planting snowdrops was an extra special way to mark SPRING’s 20th anniversary.

“We hope that this special place will give bereaved families somewhere to return to throughout the year to remember their babies.”

SPRING supports parents and relatives through the loss of a baby – at any stage of pregnancy, at, or just after birth.  The support is available to bereaved families living in Poole, Bournemouth and surrounding areas.  Services include SPRING-funded counselling, a monthly support meeting, coffee mornings, remembrance events and support for through subsequent pregnancies.  SPRING also provides funding to enhance the bereavement suites in Poole Maternity Hospital.
