Donate to Poole Hospital Charity and help provide festive cheer for patients

Poole Hospital Charity is attempting to raise £25,000 to purchase specialist equipment for Poole Hospital this festive season.

The fundraising drive is part of the charity’s annual ‘Elf Service’ initiative and all the funds raised will go towards equipment and services for departments and wards at the hospital.

A ‘Christmas List’ of £25,000s worth of specialist equipment has been drawn up. The list has four items which are: child resuscitation training dolls, radiotherapy immobilisation breast boards, newborn baby warming cots and a movement therapy rehabilitation bike.

To raise both funds and awareness, the charity has spread Christmas cheer at a number of festive events.

At the ‘Elf Dash’ on 9 December, more than 200 people, dressed as elves, jogged around Poole Park completing an assortment of fun activities before returning to meet Father Christmas in his grotto.

There was also a quiz night on 7 December, ‘Poole Elf Day’ on 14 December, where hospital staff dressed up as elves, and a Christmas carol service on 18 December.

“All of our events have gone down really well and, in particular, it was amazing to see so many people dressed up as elves as our Elf Dash event,” said Sara.

“A big thank you to all the people, local business and our community partners who have done so much for us.

“I’m determined to reach our target so we can do our bit in providing the best possible care and service for our patients.”

The charity is well on its way to reaching its target but is still on the lookout for more donations.

Previous examples of what donations have funded are a cooling machine for babies that require prolonged resuscitation at birth, a ventilator that breathes for a baby when they are too poorly or premature to breathe for themselves and a £125,000 redesign and refurbishment of the maternity unit’s labour rooms.
