Tribute to Tracey

Our newly redesigned day surgery recovery suite has been officially opened, alongside a dedication to operating department practitioner Tracey Marsden who died earlier this year.

Tracey was instrumental in designing the refurbished department, which has seen the number of bays increase from seven to eight, monitoring equipment now wall-mounted instead of on benches and a new nursing ‘hub’ within the suite.

The department was officially opened on 12 May, with special guests including Tracey’s son Tom and his wife Rachel, and Tracey’s sister, Bev, as well as theatres and recovery staff and management. A plaque was unveiled in Tracey’s memory bearing the unit’s new name - The Tracey Marsden Recovery Suite.

Tracey “will be greatly missed but has left us with this recovery suite as her legacy,” it reads.

“This department owes a great deal to Tracey,” said Helen Pope, junior sister in day surgery recovery.

“Tracey had the vision to improve these facilities to benefit patients.”

An excellent practitioner, Tracey was immensely proud to work in  theatres and featured in a recruitment film to champion the role and to encourage others to join the trust.
