New year, new career

A range of job opportunities at Poole Hospital is being highlighted in a series of new awareness-raising films.

The hospital is looking to recruit both recently qualified and experienced nurses and midwives to join teams working in operating theatres, elderly care services and maternity.

Eight short films have been produced as part of the recruitment drive, featuring staff in a variety of roles talking about their experiences of the hospital, why they joined and why they would encourage others to.

blanca caballero garciaAmong them is Blanca Caballero Garcia, from Spain, who is now a deputy sister on the stroke unit after joining the hospital as a band 4 nurse.

“My decision to join Poole Hospital was one of the best decisions I have taken in my life,” she said.

“We’re like a little family here, my experience has been brilliant – everyone has helped me from the beginning.

“I just want to encourage everyone to come and join me as well.”

laura davisLaura Davis joined as a staff nurse after qualifying in nursing at Bournemouth University. She works in the award-winning Rapid Access Consultant Evaluation (RACE) unit for older patients.

“I did three years of training here and I just loved the team, the fact that everyone works together,” said Laura. “Poole Hospital was my first choice.

“RACE is quite quick and fast-paced, and that’s why I enjoy it. Teamwork is core and everyone supports each other. As a newly qualified nurse, that was really appreciated.”

The campaign targets potential employees not just in Dorset, but elsewhere in the country, as well as overseas. The films will be featuring in the hospital’s social media use, including Twitter and Facebook, in the coming weeks.

Yvonne Jeffrey, assistant director of nursing at Poole Hospital, said “I hope viewers enjoy watching the films and finding out more about the different roles, and the support and development opportunities available here.

“At Poole Hospital our staff really are the stars, and it’s great that so many have supported our recruitment drive, and are helping us to showcase the many benefits that working here can offer.

“From recently qualified to experienced staff, we ensure that everyone receives the support and development they need to fulfil their potential, and demonstrate our values – compassion, openness, respect, accountability and safety – in all they do’.”
