Poole hospital shortlisted for Flu Fighter awards

flu fightingPoole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust’s Flu Fighter team has been shortlisted for a national award, after exceeding a national target to vaccinate 75% of frontline staff against flu.

The team, which includes representatives from occupational health, human resources and communications, has been shortlisted in the ‘most improved flu fighter campaign’ category of the NHS Flu Fighters awards 2016/17. These national awards look to celebrate those organisations that have led successful local flu campaigns.

Over 80% of nurses, doctors and other health professionals working in the hospital have been vaccinated this winter, an impressive increase on the 33% vaccinated the previous year. The team attended wards and departments at all hours to vaccinate as many staff as possible with widespread promotional publicity including a fun myth-busting ‘Guess Flu?’ online quiz.

Jacqueline Cotgrove, director of workforce and organisational development said: “We are absolutely delighted that the team have been nominated for these prestigious national awards, reflecting the commitment staff have shown to protect our patients and their families and friends against flu.

“This year we have taken a variety of different approaches to help engage with staff on this important issue, and I think the results speak for themselves, with far more staff taking precautions to protect themselves and their patients from the risk of infection.”

The Flu Fighter Awards ceremony will take place in Leeds on Monday 27 March.
