Labour rooms undergo £125,000 redesign

Labour rooms at Poole Hospital’s maternity hospital have undergone a £125,000 redesign and refurbishment to improve the quality of care offered.

Two rooms in the delivery suite at St Mary’s have been enlarged and new en suite facilities added.  Each room has wall-mounted units which enable temperature regulation for babies, as well as resuscitation should this be required. Samantha Frost gave birth to the new facilities’ first set of twins this week, with the arrival of Holly and Poppy on 18 May.Labour rooms refurbishment May 2017

The trust board has also agreed a further £200,000 investment to improve four more rooms to the same standard this year, with the remaining two labour rooms earmarked for improvement in the following year.

Sandra Chitty, head of midwifery, said she was delighted to be able to offer enhanced facilities for many mums.

“It’s important that we continue to provide not only the best care possible but the best environment too,” she said.

“The response from mums like Samantha who have used the new rooms has been really positive - these improvements form part of our ongoing commitment to providing the best birthing experience possible.”

Funding for the improvements included a £25,000 contribution from Poole Hospital Charity, with the rest provided by Poole Hospital. The trust’s aim is to upgrade all the rooms in the labour ward over the next 12 months.

Fundraising continues to improve other areas of the labour ward - you can support this by visiting www.justgiving.com/campaigns/charity/phwl/Maternity or by texting  BUMP01  followed by £3, £5 or £10 to 70070 to donate £3, £5 or £10 respectively.
