Caroline Morgan sun safety bbc south

Dr Caroline Morgan, clinical lead for skin cancer, talks to BBC South today about the rising number of cases of the condition. Dr Morgan tells reporter Briony Leyland about how the dermatology service at Poole Hospital is changing to meet demand, what’s behind the increase and what the public can do to stay safe in the sun.

“All skin cancers are increasing year on year including melanoma,” said Dr Morgan. “We have a very high incidence of skin cancer in Poole due to the outdoor lifestyle and high numbers of people that have retired to the coast.

“To cope with the demands we have put on extra theatre lists and opened a new outpatient theatre in the dermatology department last year.

“We've also recruited more nursing staff to be trained in the recognition and follow up of patients with skin cancer.”

Tune in to BBC One at 6.30pm this evening (14 September 2016) to find out more.
