Sucessful safety conference

safety conference demo

12 October saw our second annual Patient Safety Conference take place in the education centre. The event was well attended by staff in a wide range of roles as well as from external organisations.

Examples of best practice as well as lessons learnt from safety incidents were shared. Alongside informative talks there was also an exhibition providing the opportunity to learn more about safety campaigns and become actively involved.

The event also saw the launch of the new Poole Hospital Safety Pins Twitter account (@PHTsafetypins). Safety Pins is a group linking staff that underpin safety through infection prevention & control, tissue viability, falls and adult safeguarding.

Speakers included Tracey Nutter, director of nursing, who opened the event, Denise Richards, assistant director of nursing (safety),  discussing if it’s safe to huddle, David Williams, lead simulation practitioner, demonstrating a critical airway incident as part of his talk on simulation in practice and Dr Craig Prescott, consultant, talking about how to recognise and prevent acute kidney injury.

“It was wonderful to see such a good turnout yesterday. Safety is a core part of work, as well as one of our Poole Approach values, so it’s essential we work together to learn and improve constantly”, Denise Richards, assistant director of nursing (safety), said.

“The day was packed full of great examples of best practice from across the hospital and further afield with engaging speakers and demonstrations as well as great exhibits. I’d like to thank everyone who attended and our speakers and exhibiting departments – they are what made the conference successful, and makes our hospital a safer place for staff and patients.”
