The team work collaboratively within a
wider pelvic floor multi-disciplinery team which includes
the radiology, medical physics, colorectal, uro-gynaecology
departments and continence/bowel nurse specialists.
Treatment is always tailored to the patient
and is in accordance with current guidelines from NICE, The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and
Royal College of Obstetricians and
We provide an informative self-help
information session as part of the antenatal back care service
which outlines how to adjust advantageously to the changes of
pregnancy. This group typically precedes individual assessment and
treatment and is effective care for 7/10 of women.
Similarly, we also run a women’s health group which advises on
pelvic floor issues such as bladder/bowel symptoms and pelvic organ
prolapse, as well as a pre-operative group during which we discuss
pre and post-surgical advice in collaboration with the ward and
menopause specialist nurse.
