Stroke services

The acute stroke unit provides care for patients of all ages with an emergency admission of a stroke or suspected stroke.

The care of patients within the unit revolves around confirming diagnosis, assessing the severity of the stroke and devising a care and treatment plan.

Once the patient is considered to be stable and requiring less intensive care they are then transferred to the Rockley rehabilitation ward.

Patients come for rehabilitation to Rockley ward from the acute stroke unit or from other wards in the Hospital.

The medical, nursing and therapy staff continue with the treatment plan and ongoing assessment of the patient to help maximise recovery.
