What is the purpose of the restorative
dentistry and oral rehabilitation service?
The service predominantly provides dental
management of patients being treated for head and neck
cancers. This commonly involves replacing teeth that have
been removed following cancer surgery or preventive advice to
minimise/prevent side effects arising from the use of

treatment in the department is of a specialist nature and generally
provided for those who require complex dental care. The
service is part of the head and neck oncology
multi-disciplinary team within Dorset Cancer Care Centre.
A limited part of the service is for the
provision of NHS funded dental implants that meet the criteria set
out in the local NHS dental implant guidelines. This service
is funded by the Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group (formerly
primary care trust).
