Medical investigations unit

MIU sisterWelcome to the Medical Investigations Unit

About us

MIU is one of the few units across the UK which is led entirely by specially trained nurses, offering day case care and procedures for patients who previously would have been admitted into hospital or their discharge delayed, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

As specially trained nurses, members of the team assess patients with diagnosed or undiagnosed conditions, making decisions regarding the clinical care that particular patient requires. Members of the team are qualified to prescribe medications and in June 2012, MIU nurses became the first in England to prescribe blood and blood products on a non-emergency basis which was previous to this a doctor delivered service.
