Voice Clinic

Voice Clinic

Voice clinicWe have a weekly voice clinic at Poole Hospital where we see patients with a wide variety of voice disorders.

This is a specialist, multidisciplinary clinic where you will be seen by our specialist Laryngology consultant, Kate Heathcote, and a Senior Speech and Language Therapist.

In this clinic we have state of the art endoscopic equipment to analyse the structure and function of the larynx (voice box). Depending on our findings you may be offered speech therapy with or without medication or one of the full range of advanced surgical procedures that we perform here in Poole.

This service has gone from strength to strength and now receives referrals from around the country. We are one of very few centres in the UK to offer laryngeal reinnervation procedures for the treatment of vocal cord palsy (paralysis of the voice box).

We are extremely fortunate to have a fully equipped laryngology clinic where some voice procedures can be performed under local anaesthesia (awake). This is a great advantage for patients who are high risk for general anaesthesia.

Laryngeal electromyography: together with the neurophysiology department we are able to assess neurological conditions of the voice box. we run regular laryngeal EMG clinics to aid us in the diagnosis and treatment  of patients with weakness of the muscles.
