Palliative care

Palliative care input to the multi-disciplinary team is essential at all stages along the treatment pathway from diagnosis to end of life care. Palliative care plays an integral part in decision making and supporting patients to make informed choices about their treatment.

The palliative care team are expert in symptom control and work alongside the surgeons and oncologists focusing on symptoms such as pain and excessive secretions as well as emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Care and support is also available to carers and families of patients who are facing a potentially life threatening illness.

Palliative care aims to enhance quality of life, but may also positively influence the course of illness and affirms life whilst regarding death as a normal process.
