Safety - why it is a locked unit

For children’s safety, access to the unit is restricted. Staff have swipe cards to access the unit and visitors have to ring an intercom bell to gain access to the ward area they wish to visit.

Visitors should bear in mind that the bell is answered by nursing staff and if they are busy with patients there may be a short wait until the bell is answered.

Visitors will be asked via the intercom who it is they are visiting and then given directions and buzzed through onto the unit.

Patients attending for outpatient appointments need to come to the main reception desk where they will be directed to the appropriate areas for their appointment.
