'A Walk To Remember' will take place on Tuesday 10 August in support of Dignity in Dementia

A fun family walk will take place around Old Town Poole on Tuesday 10 August to raise funds for Dignity in Dementia.

‘A Walk To Remember’ will give families the opportunity to explore Poole Quay and the surrounding streets and alleyways, with treasure hunt-style questions to answer en route and some fantastic prizes up for grabs.

The minimum donation for families to take part will be just £5, and all proceeds will go towards ‘Dignity in Dementia,’ a project to improve one of Poole Hospital’s elderly medicine wards to support patients with dementia. This isn't a sponsored walk - we just ask that you give us a donation to join in the fun!

Families can register for the walk any time between 10am and 3pm at either Poole Museum or the Dolphin Shopping Centre (outside M&S), and the walk should take around an hour and a half to complete.

All completed question sheets will be entered into a draw, with prizes including family panto tickets for The Lighthouse, Poole Speedway tickets, family entry to Farmer Palmers and a family river cruise with Greenslades. Hungry walkers will also be able to take advantage of some great discounts along the way, including special offers at Truly Scrumptious Sweet Shop and The New Orchard Cafe.

Dignity in Dementia is a project to support hospital patients with dementia by improving the physical environment on Poole Hospital's Lulworth Ward. Going into hospital can be a very frightening and disorientating time for people with dementia, but research has shown that changing aspects of the environment such as lighting, colour and decor can make a huge difference to levels of anxiety, as well as improving speed of recovery, encouraging appetite and improving sleep patterns.

Poole Hospital has been privileged to receive a grant from The King’s Fund to support this work, but the team are keen to raise further funds to allow more work to be done to help patients. To find out more about Dignity in Dementia, visit www.poole.nhs.uk/dignity_in_dementia
