A huge thank you to everyone who has supported Poole Hospital Charity.

Here are just a few stories from the many many people who have supported us:

Heart FM and Andy Walker made a special delivery of Mugs to the Children's Unit to say thank you for looking after little Theo. These will benefit everyone on the Unit - the staff, parents and patients - we can never have enough Mugs to go around.

Helen Parker and the Childrens Community Nurses Team supported by Woodlands Burials raised £1,200 and alot of awareness for their fantastic work at the Dolphin Centre during the week of 16th April. Read more :Children's community nurses

It was a Grim Challenge ! Vicky Johnson and her team from Dorset Police raised £2,500 in sponsorship for the Dorset Cancer Centre by completing the Grim Challenge. Their next challenge is the Dragon Boat Race on 15th July.

Joeline, Ellie, Tamsin and Chloe from Adecco, collected more than 100 Easter eggs for the Children's Unit. Yummy !

Pauline Polley held a golf day in September 2011 raising £4,500 for the Dorset Cancer Centre. As well as purchasing footstools we will be able to brighten up one of our patient bays with new equipment, paintings, chairs and footstools.” Pauline said “I am so pleased to be able to give something back to the Dorset Cancer Centre.   It has become a home from home for me, the staff are absolutely brilliant and have become friends.    Most of all they make me feel like an individual, that personal touch and nice surroundings makes the whole experience easier to cope with.”

“I would especially like to say how fantastic the 24 hour chemotherapy line is.  I have used it several times and it just provides that bit of extra comfort knowing there is someone at the end of the telephone day or night.”

Pauline also won an award for all her fundraising efforts at the Poole Hospital Awards on 28th March.

Bearwood Angels are busy fundraising to refurbish the kitchen on Bearwood Ward. They plan to make it a lovely place for families to enjoy a meal together away from the bedside. They have raised around £2000 so far and have lots of events planned to reach their target of £5000.

Penny Jarvis made it to the top of Kilimanjaro in September raising a fantastic £3,400 for the Maternity Unit. She is off on a cycle tour of Vietnam in October 2012 raising funds for the Children's Unit.

Jacqui Cooke, together with Andrea Henley, Steve Smith and fellow colleagues held a raffle and cake sale to raise funds for the Child Development Centre at Poole Hospital. Staff also donated money to the charity instead of giving each other Christmas cards. South West Ambulance Service has been raising funds during December 2011 to help purchase a floor sitter for children aged 0-2 years old which assists a child’s ability to learn how to sit and play.

Wendy Taylor (pictured centre) and friends took part in a sponsored spin and raised £600 for the Child Development Centre.

Stagewise brought Christmas cheer by singing carols to patients on the childrens wards and elderly wards in December. They also serenaded lucky shoppers at Homesense.

In April 2011 Mark and Phil completed the 85 mile hikein largely glorious sunshine and surrounded by the most wonderful scenery. They raised a fantastic £2000 which was recently presented to the staff at the Child Development Centre at Poole Hospital.Walk for Walkers - 12.07.11

Tanya Broome from Preemie Babies presented a cheque for £4,700 to staff at NICU. Danny Lockyer, Charge Nurse on NICU thanked Tanya for the donation and said “we are thrilled to receive this donation which will help to purchase some of the vital equipment for our tiny patients.” Tanya’s aim is to raise funds for equipment that will help to save the lives of premature babies.“It was fantastic to raise so much at our first event.  This is just the start, I am hoping to be able to raise enough money to be able to buy an incubator which costs around £25,000.” A Night to Remember - Preemie Babies event

The Broadstone Beaver pack, aged between 6 and 8, walked approximately 2 miles from the Broadstone Sport Centre along the Castleman Trailway to the Willet Arms in Wimborne raising £310 for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Sainsbury's nominated Poole Hospital Charity as their charity of the year for 2010 raising £4000 by holding various events throughout the year and having buckets at their tills. Sainsburys 21.7.11

Lucie Allen, Chairman of The Sunshade Appeal presented a Biopsy Chair to staff in the Breast Screening Unit at Poole Hospital, she said, “We are a small, very local charity and raise money for Cancer treatment by holding an annual fancy dress themed party with live music, fabulous food and a varying venue each year to keep it fresh.  The 2010 party was held at the Royal Motor Yacht Club with an aptly nautical theme of ‘Maritime Madness’ and we were delighted to raise £5000 on the evening for the Breast Screening Unit at Poole Hospital in order for them to purchase the new Biopsy chair”.The Sunshade Appeal

The 'Push for Maternity' was held on a glorious sunny day in May. More than 30 mothers pushed their babies and toddlers twice around the Poole Park lake followed by a picnic. They raised £1500 for the Maternity Unit. Buggy Push 5.5.11

More than 30 supporters braved the freezing weather in January 2011 to take part in the Nordic Walk for the Ladybird Unit Nordic Walking group. They raised in excess of £1500 which will be spent on equipment for the group which supports ladies recovering from breast cancer.

Pauline Polley handed over a cheque for £4,500 to Poole Hospital Charity following a charity golf day held at Dudburys Golf Club. This is the 3rd golf event of its kind that Pauline has organised to raise funds for cancer care at Poole Hospital. Nicky Hagger, Sister for Dorset Cancer Centre – Day Care Unit said “Pauline’s very generous donation will help us to improve our patients comfort by purchasing footstools and refurbishing one of our patient bays.Pauline Polley

Ten teams took part in the Dragon Boat Race in Poole Park in September raising more than £3000 for Poole Hospital Charity and Poole Africa Link. The 'Goat Boat' took first prize with the Pennyfarthing Pirates and the 59ers coming in a close second and third.

 

The Dorset Police Male Voice Choir concert held at St Peters Church in Ashley Cross raised in excess of £800. A thoroughly enjoyable evening listening to the dulcet tones of the choir was had by all who attended.

A local breast cancer support group 'The Harbour Girls' organised a glamourous pink ball at the Haven Hotel in September raising more than £30,000. The funds raised have been used to completely refurbish and re-equip the Lymphoedema Unit, purchase a breast board for the Radiotherapy Department and help establish a bra-fitting service in the Ladybird Unit at Poole Hospital.

The Around the World in 8 Days static cycle challenge was held in June 2012 and raised a staggering £65,147.92 shared between the Dorset Cancer Centre, Breast Cancer Care and Cancer Research. Chris Bown was delighted to receive a cheque for £45,000 which will go towards purchasing additional equipment for the radiotherapy service at Poole Hospital. A huge thank you to Karen Adams for organising this amazing event and the enormous number of supporters who cycled, sponsored and came along to cheer on the cyclists.

Poole Hospital Charity were delighted to have been chosen as the nominated charity for the Poole Festival of Running for the second year running! It was a rainy day but everyone turned out to complete their run. The 2009 and 2010 events have raised in excess £13,000, funds have been used to purchase new monitors for the Maternity Unit. Details of the 2012 Poole Festival of Running will be released in January 2012, watch this space.

Austin Lathem completed a triathlon with a difference and raised over £3,000! Covering over 1,000 miles on foot, bicycle & canoe to raise money for the Maxillofacial Unit at Poole Hospital!

The Wish List Fashion Show raised over £600! A big thank you to the Hallmark Hotel for supporting our event! Ladies enjoyed a fun & fabulous evening raising money for the Maternity Unit!

Staff & customers from the Haymoor Public House continue to support  Dorset Cancer Centre & recently donated £1,000 to the newly refurbished Sandbanks Ward!

Andrew Milner raised over £1,400 for the Coronary Care Unit from a sponsored slim!

Christopher & Michael Riley donated £1,462 to the Radiology Department at Poole Hospital in memory of their Mother & Father.

Staff from Wilts & Dorset have been recycling mobile phones which have been left on their buses by passengers. The company has recently received £300 from the recycling company which was donated to Poole Hospital's Maternity Unit & Dorset Breast Screening Unit.

Rosemary Maber raised over £380 for the Phillip Arnold Unit. Friends, family and local people sponsored Rosemary to have her hair cut! Inches and inches were cut away! Rosemary has also recently held a Christmas Fayre to help raise funds for the unit!

The Pirates of Poole raised £9000 for The Wish List at this years Harry Paye Fun Day!

Mrs Thelma Blyth of Priory Lodge Christchurch raised funds for Poole Hospital's Oncology Unit. The funds were used to purchased a new chair for the unit.

Staff of Marks and Spencer Poole modelled as live manequins to help raise money for Poole Hosptial! This is part of Marks adn Spencers fundraising committment to Poole Hosptial. To date the store has raised a fantastic £2790!

A team of colleagues from Poole Hospital's outpatients department were among brave challengers who descended 130 feet from Parkstone House! The event raised over £8000, thank you to everyone who took part!

Pauline Polley and friends from Dudsbury Golf Course created a charity calender and raised £1450 for Dorset Cancer Centre.

Members of the Renegade Scooter Club visited Poole Hospital to deliver Easter eggs to patients on the Children’s Unit.

Celebrity chef James Martin was joined by 300 motorcyclists for a visit to Poole Hospital’s children’s unit! James and the bikers gave gifts to the childrens and made a donation to the Wish List!

Pupils from Bournemouth School for Girls have been raising money for our new maternity unit and recently visited the hospital to see our Neo-natal intensive care unit.

Toby Anstis and colleagues from Heart Radio officially opened the Children's Wards outside play area which was funded by staff at Baclays House in Poole! A massive thank you to Sharon Keenan and her team for their continuous support!

Bob and Lindsay Oliver continue to donate to Dorset Breast Screening Unit! We have recently received £1000 which will go towards improve the units waiting area!
