Getting around the site

The site has been designed to make it easy to find what you're looking for. Use the main menu on the left to select an area of the site and the drop down menus to find sub-sections.

You can search the site using keywords and phrases or use the site map to browse the content.

If you prefer to not use a mouse you can use the 'Tab' key on your keyboard to cycle forward through the links (press the 'Shift' and 'Tab' keys together to cycle back through the links). Press the enter key to follow a link.

Above the heading on each page there are breadcrumb links. These links indicate the position of the current page within a site's hierarchy regardless of the path taken to arrive there. These links can be used to navigate back to the home page or sub-section index page.

Changing the background and text colour

  1. Click on the 'tools' menu, then 'internet options' menu, then the 'accessibility' button (in the 'general' tab).

  2. Tick 'ignore colours specified on web pages', then click 'OK'.

  3. Click 'colors', then untick 'use windows colors'.

  4. Select the text and background colours you want, then click 'OK', and 'OK' again to close the options screen.

Changing the font size

In Internet Explorer:

Click 'view' menu, then click on 'text size' and select the text size you would like.

In Firefox:

Click the 'view' menu, then click 'text size', then click 'increase' or 'decrease' until the text size is how you want it.

Changing the font style

In Internet explorer:

  1. Click the 'tools' menu, then 'internet options', then the 'accessibility button' (in the 'general' tab).

  2. Tick 'ignore font styles specified on web pages', then click 'OK'.

  3. Click 'fonts', select the font you want to use and click 'OK', then 'OK' again to close the options screen.

In Firefox:

  1. Select the 'tools' menu, then click 'options', then click 'fonts & colors'.

  2. Choose the font you want to use, and tick 'always use my fonts' check box, then click 'OK'.

This website has been built to meet Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) Content Accessibility Guidelines set by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and we aim, wherever possible, to ensure we conform to 'Triple-A' standards.

Accessible design means making sure that your site can be used by the widest group of people possible. As well as being a sensible objective, since 1999 and the Disability Discrimination Act it's a legal requirement.
